TRAVEL GUIDE

JetBlue Airways

Bringing Infants and Children

A paying adult customer may carry, free of charge, one child over 3 days and under 2 years of age. There will be a $11.95 USD tax for lap children traveling to the Dominican Republic and this fee will be collected at the airport at time of check in. Customers traveling with an infant as a lap child could be asked for proof of age, such as a passport, birth certificate (copies are acceptable for domestic travel) or an immunization record when the infant's age is questionable. Infants between 3 and 14 days old must also have, in the form of a letter, doctor's approval to travel. Please contact a Dominican Consulate for additional documentation requirements needed for minors under the age of 18 traveling between the U.S. and Dominican Republic.

Children Traveling on International Flights

Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic has strict requirements concerning the travel of minors (persons under the age of 18) to/from the Dominican Republic who are unaccompanied, traveling with someone other than both parents or legal guardians, or who are traveling with only one parent or legal guardian. The Dominican Republic generally requires such minors carry a letter of consent in Spanish that is signed and notarized by both parents or, if traveling with only one parent, by the parent who is not traveling with the minor. If the travel originates in the U.S., the letter must be notarized before the Dominican Republic Consulate in the U.S. and, in most cases, also filed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Dominican Republic. If the travel originates in the Dominican Republic, the letter must be notarized before a Dominican Notary and, in many instances, also certified by the Office of the Attorney General and filed with the Immigration Office. A modest fee is generally associated with notarizing/certifying the letter. Any customer under the age of 18 who is unaccompanied, traveling with someone other than both parents or legal guardians, or who is traveling with only one parent or legal guardian, should contact the Dominican Republic Consulate in the United States or the Dominican Republic Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Dominican Republic for entry/exit requirements.

Bahamas

It is highly recommended that children under the age of 13 traveling alone or with someone other than a parent or legal guardian carry with them a letter of authorization from their parent or legal guardian as well as a copy of the parent or legal guardian's photo id.

Baggage Information

Free Checked Baggage Allowance on Domestic Flights: As a fare-paying customer, JetBlue allows you to check up to three pieces of baggage, except for travel to and from Puerto Rico where the number of checked bags is limited to two pieces. The maximum weight is 70 pounds each. The maximum size is 62 inches (length plus width plus height) each. Excess baggage charges apply to additional pieces, overweight pieces and oversized pieces of baggage. The following fees apply to baggage not meeting the above requirements:

  • Overweight up to 100 pounds - $50 USD.
  • Oversize up to 80 inches - $50 USD.
  • When both oversize and overweight - $100 USD.

In no event will baggage be accepted that is over 100 pounds or exceeds 80 inches in overall dimensions. Regulations require name identification on the outside of each checked bag. We also recommend placing name identification on the inside of your luggage.

Free Checked Baggage Allowance on International Flights: JetBlue Airways will transport two bags, per ticketed customer as checked baggage free of charge for international destinations. Bags are not to exceed 62 inches in overall dimensions or 70 pounds per bag.

  • NO oversize (over 62 inches in overall dimensions) or overweight (over 70 pounds) baggage will be permitted.
  • NO boxes will be permitted as checked baggage.

Effective May 1, 2005, checked baggage on Dominican Republic flights is weight restricted to 50 pounds each and may not exceed 62 inches in overall length, width and height. Overweight or oversized bags are not accepted.

Carry-on Baggage Allowance for All JetBlue Flights: All customers are allowed one carry-on and one personal item (i.e. purse, briefcase, laptop, etc.). Personal items must be 18" x 15" x 8" or smaller to fit under the seat. Carry-on baggage must be 24" x 16" x 10" or smaller to fit in the overhead bin. There is no limit to the number of assistive devices brought into the cabin by a disabled customer and these are not considered as part of the carry-on limit established in the JetBlue Airways carry-on baggage program. All stowage of disabled customer's equipment in the aircraft cabin shall be in accordance with JetBlue Airways approved carry-on baggage program and regulations dealing with the handling procedures for carriage of baggage in customer compartment.
