| Traveling while Pregnant |
General Guidelines:
- Women in any stage of pregnancy are accepted for transportation on Continental.
- Continental policy requires a doctor's certificate within 7 days of anticipated delivery. This should be advised when the reservation is made. However, boarding will only be denied if physical signs of labor are present.
- Women beyond the seventh month of pregnancy should be advised to consult a physician prior to traveling.
- Regulations regarding the use of seat belts must be observed.

| Traveling with Infants |
Incubation and Infants Under 7 Days Old
Continental does NOT accept infants in incubation or infants under 7 days old as passengers on any flight.
Acceptance of Accompanied Children Under Two Years
Continental will accept one child under two years of age traveling with a parent or an adult 18 years or older, provided the child does not occupy a seat. If there are two or more children under two years of age traveling with the same passenger, only one of the children may travel as a lap child. Any additional children under two years are required to have a ticket, and pay the applicable children's fare.
Infant Seats
If they wish, customers may use an FAA approved infant seat. The infant seat must be used in an unoccupied aircraft seat and cannot be held in an adult's lap. The infant seat must remain properly secured to the seat at all times, unless the passenger chooses to eventually store the seat as a carry-on. Please also be aware the infant seat cannot be used in an exit row, or in the row immediately before or after an exit row.
Ticketing
If the infant seat is to occupy a customer seat, the seat must be purchased. The published child's fare will apply. Infants who are carried in an adult's lap do not require a ticket for wholly domestic travel. An infant ticket is required for international travel. International taxes will be collected for all destinations outside of the 50 U.S. states. Infants who are over two years old are required to purchase a ticket and occupy a customer seat with a separate seat belt.
Infant Seating
For infants on all rows and seat sections, passengers with infants cannot be seated in exit rows. There is also only one lap infant allowed per seat section due to oxygen mask constraints.
Bassinets
Continental offers bassinets on select international/ transcontinental flights for infants weighing 22 lbs. (approx. 10 kg.) or less. Bassinets should be requested at the time reservation is made as quantities are limited. Specific aircraft offer this service. |
| Carry-on Baggage |
| Wrapped Packages |
| Due to higher security levels at airports worldwide, gifts and packages are subject to the same inspection as your carry-on baggage. To reduce delays at the airport security checkpoint Continental recommends that you travel with your packages unwrapped. This will allow for easy inspection, if necessary. |
| Carry-on Bag |
Continental will permit one bag plus one personal item (see below) per passenger to be carried on the aircraft.
The maximum combined linear measurement (L + W + H) of the carry-on bag is 51 inches (130 cm). The maximum weight of the carry-on bag is 40 pounds (18 kg). |
| Personal items |
In addition to the one carry-on item, you may bring free-of-charge the below items:
- one small personal article such as a briefcase, purse, day planner, small laptop computer, camera case, compact disk player or similar sized personal entertainment item
- personal aid devices such as wheelchairs, braces, canes, crutches, prosthetic devices and walking sticks, provided passenger is dependent on them.
- one infant article such as a collapsible stroller, a diaper bag or a government approved child seat.
Note: No knives of any size or material are allowed past the security checkpoint (including, but not limited to, pocket knives, folding or retractable blades regardless of blade length or composition, box cutters, X-Acto knives, scissors with a pointed tip, straight razors, Leatherman or Swiss Army Knives).
Laptop computers must be removed from their cases and placed on the baggage belt at the security checkpoint.
Additional carry-on Baggage restrictions may apply on certain flights. |
| Note: Baggage allowances for Continental's codeshare partners or ExpressJet Airlines, Inc. dba Continental Express may be different. If your itinerary includes any of these carriers, please contact a Continental representative for additional information. |
