TRAVEL GUIDE

TRAVELING WITH TINY TRAVELERS?
  Don't Forget to Babyproof!

Keeping Baby safe when you're on the go can be a challenge for new parents.  Especially with recent surveys showing many hotels offer guests out-of-date or poorly maintained cribs, parents must be extra cautious when using second-hand or aged infant equipment which may not meet current safety standards.

But new parenthood doesn't have to be a non-stop worry. With a little common sense, and the following tips, you can easily childproof a hotel room or relative's house.  Remember to always:

  • Carry your own nightlight and bathtub drain cover.

  • Carry rubber bands and masking tape to latch cabinets, minibars and microwaves closed.

  • Carry plastic covers for room and bathroom outlets, or request them from Housekeeping.

  • Remove small objects, such as pens, remote controls, toothpicks,  loose change and matchbooks from all counter tops.

  • Remove plastic bags from all garbage pails.

  • Push furniture with sharp edges up against a wall.

  • Use rolled up blankets rather than pillows to create bumpers in a borrowed crib.

  • Closely monitor water temperature and pressure in the sink and bathtub.

  • Be extra cautious around swimming pools.
