Tips for Traveling With A Baby During The Liquid Ban Security Procedures

NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE.

On August 10th, the Transportation Security Administration changed the security procedures banning all liquds, creams or gels of any kind. Babies Travel Lite's CEO, Natalie Pechacek, was asked to clarify the rules and gave some tips for clearing the security checkpoints when traveling with a baby or toddler. The following are some tips based on what was discussed on MSNBC's "The Most" hosted by Alison Stewart.

Quick Tips To Make Air Travel With Small Children Easier During The Liquid Ban

  • Inventory your diaper bag and find substitutes for banned items
  • Bring a single dose of any non-prescription drug and administer before you clear security. If your baby needs medicine like Tylenol, Motrin, or Benadryl, up to 4 oz. of essential non-prescription liquid medications should be allowed.
  • Travel with sufficient powdered formula to cover any unforeseen problems or delays
  • Prepare for long waits by bringing drinks and snacks, also bring something for your child to do in line.
  • Put beverages for while you wait in line in disposable containers.  They will need to be disposed of at security.
  • Prepare your child in advance of your trip for the beverage choices they will have on the airplane.
  • Bring an empty sippy cup to use on the plane.
  • As you board as a flight attendant to bring your child a drink before takeoff so they have it during takeoff to avoid ear pain.

Always check with your airline or check www.tsa.gov before you travel because the rules can and do change constantly.
